Nompumelelo Siziba

Nompumelelo SizibaNompu is a seasoned television anchor and reporter, with a track record spanning over ten years. Her knowledge strength lies in business and the economy. She primarily looks at the capital markets, presenting the JSE markets segment on the SABC’s News @ 1.

Nompu has interviewed newsmakers across all sectors. Given her business focus, she’s interviewed a number of CEOs, finance ministers, leaders from Bretton Woods organisation, entrepreneurs and ordinary people. Her work can be easily accessed on the SABC digital platform by just entering her name, where one can see her interview style and engagement with interviewees.

Nompu’s academic background includes a law degree and a Masters in Journalism.

Abdullah Verachia

He has also headed up consulting assignments on behalf of a number of South African Industrial Development Zones and Investment Promotion Agencies. He has also done work on behalf of leading donor organisations and specifically on the intra-emerging market flows between Asia and Africa. He has also advised and engaged with a number of Indian companies entering Africa. Abdullah is also a regular media commentator. 

Abdullah is currently co-authoring a book on the commercial corridor between South Africa and India
as well as a book on Leading in a changing world – the future of disruption.

She was awarded the 2013 Laureate Award by the University of Pretoria as a GIBS Alumnus to honour her outstanding contribution to her field of expertise. Msomi is a Cherie Blair Foundation Mentee Alumni having completed the Mentoring Women in Business Programme in June 2016. Dudu Msomi is the Institute of Directors (IoDSA) Fellow Member.

Dudu Msomi is on the board of directors of the Financial Services Board (FSB) where she is also a member of the Licensing, Litigation and Audit Committees. She is also a Trustee on the Humulani Trust (Invicta Holdings) & Member of the GIBS MBA Alumni Bursary Committee. Dudu Msomi has a B.A. (Psychology and English) & B. A.Hons. Shingi Munyeza

CEO, Vinal Investments 

Shingi MunyezaShingi Munyeza is Chief Executive of Vinal Investments which owns the Mugg & Bean, Ocean Basket, News Café, Simply Asia, Moyo’s and Iligo franchises in Zimbabwe.

After completing high school he did his articles of clerkship under Ernst and Young, at the same time enrolled for a B.Compt in Accounting with University of South Africa and also completed a Diploma in Applied Accountancy with the Institute of Accountants, Zimbabwe. He later went into advertising where he studied for an IMM Diploma in Marketing. After a while, he moved to Zim Sun (now African Sun) where he studied for a Diploma in Hotel Management Strategy with Cornell University, New York. He was later conferred an honorary doctorate in Business Administration and Development by Solusi University in March 2010 in recognition of his contribution to business development in the tourism sector.

He trained as an accountant with Ernst and Young, then made a career change to advertising and worked as an Executive Director in an advertising agency, CM & A Advertising. He moved from advertising to tourism when he got a job at Cresta Hospitality Zimbabwe, where he became Group Commercial Director. After a while, he moved to then Zimbabwe Sun Limited (now African Sun) where he assumed the role of Group Chief Executive. Munyeza led a consortium of business persons into buying a stake in the largest hotel management company in Zimbabwe, ZimSun Limited, becoming the Chief Executive Officer in the process in 2002. He later purchased shares in the firm to become the major shareholder, and in the process renamed the company to African Sun Limited (ASL). The company began to expand regionally and it bought properties in South Africa, Botswana and Mozambique between 2009 and 2010. Some hotels in Ghana and Nigeria also became part of ASL during the same period. Munyeza has received several awards including the prestigious Zimbabwe Tourism Personality of the Year for three consecutive years.

Mr Ashraf Garda

Ashraf GardaFounder, Champion South Africa; Host of Afternoon Talk and The Media Show on SAFM

Ashraf Garda is a multiple award winning broadcaster and his strategic position in the media landscape puts him at the very centre of South Africa’s dialogue and debate.He presents Afternoon Talk on SAfm and the Sunday Media Show on SAfm. Was the previous host of Special Assignment on SABC 3. He is also the brainchild of a campaign to champion South Africa’s “thought acknowledgment” and “payback mentorship” by South Africans who are champions in their field. He also pursues a strong interest as an MC, conference facilitator and media trainer – and has been a judge at many awards events. And to complete his cycle of versatility, he has contributed as a sports   analyst on CNN, AL Jazeera and CBC TV Canada.

Angelo Fick

Political Analyst, eNCA

Angelo FickAngelo Fick is a resident current affairs and news analyst at eNCA.  In his current position as senior researcher at eNCA, he does regular on-air analysis of news and current affairs, and writes regular columns on ethics and human rights in the political economy of post-millennial post-apartheid South Africa for  His work remains immersed in the nexus of feminism, critical ‘race’ theory, post-structuralism, and cultural studies.

Angelo has taught and researched the social construction and textual figuration of ‘race’, class, gender, nationality, and sexuality, and how these intersect, across disciplines ranging from literary studies to Sociology, at various universities in South Africa and abroad, including the University of Cape Town, Rhodes, UKZN, Utrecht University, Saarbrucken University, and the University of the Witwatersrand. In his last five years as a fulltime academic he taught on topics in philosophy of science in faculties of science and engineering. 

He has taught specialist graduate courses on identity, representation, and ethics, and supervised higher degrees on gender in South African politics, constructions of subjectivity, configurations of sexuality and desire, and the political economy of South Africa’s 2010 World Cup.

Dr Adrian Saville

Founder & CEO, Cannon Asset Managers 

Adrian SavilleExpertise & Key Themes: Global & domestic economic analysis; country & company competitive strategy; and investment finance 

Background & Experience: Adrian Saville’s qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) (cum laude), M.Com (cum laude) and PhD (Economics), which he completed at the University of Natal in 1997 and for which he was awarded the Economics Society of South Africa’s Founders Medal.  He is a UNESCO laureate and a matriculant of Linacre College (Oxford).  He has completed programmes in value investing and competitive strategy at New York’s Columbia University and Harvard Business School in Boston.

In 1994, while completing his doctorate in economics, Adrian formed an investment vehicle which became the forerunner to Cannon Asset Managers which he founded in 1998.  In 2013 Peregrine Holdings acquired a majority stake in Cannon Asset Managers. Today Adrian serves as Chief Executive at Cannon Asset Managers.

Adrian has experience in managing all of the major asset classes and has successfully combined teaching and business, having lectured at the University of the Witwatersrand, the University of KwaZulu-Natal, the University of Pretoria and the Estonian Business School.  Currently, he holds a Professorship of Economics, Finance & Strategy at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS), where he teaches in the fields of macroeconomics, investment finance and competitive strategy.  Adrian has received the Excellence in Teaching Award at GIBS each year since 2007.
